Ecology - How are log homes for energy efficiency?
Wood, as a material, is inherently warm, possessing good insulation, or heat retention, properties. When used as a construction material, it is a better insulator than the alternatives, such as concrete and steel.

A log home has thermal mass and so it remains cooler in summer and does not require as much energy as a block house to heat it in winter.

In Ireland, log homeowners find that their heating bill has been reduced by between 40% and 60% when moving from a block to a log home. Heating is typically switched on in November and switched off in March.
